Syrian Kurdish women units played important role in fight against ISIS: Former Centcom Commander

Former Commander of United States Central Command, Joseph Votel, described the Syrian Kurdish women's forces in the fight against ISIS as brave, prepared and motivated.

Syrian Kurdish Women Defense Units known as the YPJ, as part of the People's Defense Units (YPG), have attended in the Syrian Kurds' fight against the ISIS since 2014.

Joseph Votel, the former commander of the US Central Command or Centcom, called the role of Syrian Kurdish women forces in the fight against ISIS as important.

"Syrian Kurdish women's units were very prepared, brave and motivated," he told NBC News.

Joseph Votel stressed that the Syrian Kurdish women forces were ready for any difficult mission and could do it well.

NBC quoted the commanders of the US Central Command in the Middle East as saying that some Kurdish women fighters had appeared in the role of elite commanders and that American commanders called them generals, one of the best of whom was General Newruz.
