Turkish government is seeking to dissolve HDP, party leader tells KurdPress

The President General of the Kurdistan Islamic Party (PIK) stated that Turkey ruling Justice and Dev elopement Party (AKP) and its far-right ally National Movement Party (MHP) want to accuse the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) of collaborating with terrorism so that other parties would not enter a coalition with the party and thus both weaken the Kurds and the divide the ranks of other opposition parties.

Hikmat Sarbiland, President General of the Kurdistan Islamic Party (PIK), told KurdPress about the reasons behind Turkey pressure on the HDP that: "This is a very important question because the AKP and its ally, the MHP, are putting a lot of pressure on Kurdish politicians, especially the HDP, in various Kurdish areas and where the HDP is present.

He continued: "Of course, these pressures have always existed, but at this time they have increased the pressures and want to increase the obstacles in the way of Kurdish politicians."

"The legitimacy of the AKP and the MHP has come to an end among people, and whenever the ruling parties come to a standstill, they increase the pressure on the Kurds to attract the votes of racists, extremists and Turkish nationalists."

"This policy has been going on for years, and as the legitimacy of the ruling parties is coming to an end, they are attacking the Kurds as a policy to win votes," the party leader said.

Hikmat Sarbiland pointed out: "On the other hand, the ruling parties are at odds with other opposition parties, and in recent months, when the opposition parties were able to infiltrate the people, the pressure were increased on them, and the HDP and Kurdish people influence are very noticeable in Turkey politics, and that is why the Kurds are under pressure from the ruling party.

Referring to the policy of the ruling parties against their opponents, the PIK leader noted: "The ruling parties seek to divide the opposition parties and defeat their alliance."

Hikmat Sarbiland further stressed: "The ruling party wants to introduce the individuals and the opposition parties, that united with the HDP or are in a coalition with the party, to be announced as traitors so that the HDP is left alone in the Turkish political sphere."

He reminded: "The AKP policy is clear because it seeks to oust the Kurds. In the past few days, the case of 9 HDP MPs has been sent to the Turkish parliament to deprive them of their immunity, among them is Parvin Boldan who is the HDP co-chair."

"On the other hand, the AKP ally, the MHP, has also pursued harsh policies against the HDP, and the MHP leader Devlet Bahceli, has called for the HDP dissolution," the party leader also told KurdPress.

The PIK President General said: The Turkish government has never stopped denying and annihilating the Kurds in Turkey and has always used every opportunity to destroy the Kurds.

Hikmat Sarbiland stressed that the AKP and the MHP want to accuse the HDP of collaborating with terrorism so that other parties do not enter into an alliance with the HDP, thereby would weaken both the Kurds and the divide the ranks of other opposition parties.

He noted that the Turkish government wants to declare Kurdish parties illegal and dissolve them, as it has done in the past, adding that the Turkish government is under pressure both politically and economically and it is seeking to turn attentions away from the problems in the country and its wrong policies

The PIK President General of the Islamic Party of Kurdistan said about to the AKP defeats in domestic and foreign policies that: "In domestic politics, the only thing left in their hands and through which they buy votes and time for themselves is enmity and opposition to the Kurds. They are seeking a Pan-Turkism policy and want to revive Turkish nationalism and Islamic Islamism to cover up the structural weaknesses of the ruling system."

"It is interesting that Turkey is making these policies publically, and it was only recently that the European Court of Human Rights called for the release of Selahattin Demirtas, the former HDP co-chair, but the Turkish government ignored these demands."
