Iran extends travel restrictions on bother with Kurdistan Region

Iranian officials have decided to extend travel restrictions and close the border with the Kurdistan Region to tourists until March 18 in an effort to prevent the spread of new COVID-19 variants, Bashmakh Border Crossing Community Directorate said on Thursday, March 11.

The directorate said Iraqi citizens are not allowed to visit Iran and Iranians are not allowed to visit the Kurdistan Region. Trade activities are unaffected, NRT reported.

On February 20, Iran closed the Parewezkhan and Haji Omaran border crossings with the Kurdistan Region and Iraq to tourists for two weeks.

According to the health ministry, there have been 111,877 officially-recorded cases of coronavirus infection in the Kurdistan Region. An official tally of 105,018 patients have recovered from COVID-19 and 3,551 have died from it.
