Brett McGurk backs condemnations of Erbil airport attack

Brett McGurk, a former US president representative to the anti-IS international coalition and a White House coordinator for the Middle East and Africa affairs, said the condemnation of the attack on Erbil airport by the United States and its European allies was a sign of their commitment to continue to back Erbil and Baghdad.

White House Middle East and Africa Coordinator Brett McGurk reacted to Kurdish issues two days ago for the first time since taking office, posting on his Twitter account a joint statement by the United States and four European countries condemning the Erbil attack on April 14, strongly condemning the incident and emphasizing the need to identify the perpetrators and support the investigation into the incident.

Brett McGurk called the release of the statement by the United States and four European countries a sign of their commitment to supporting the central government of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

McGurk also republished a Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Twitter message, emphasizing the efforts to maintain the security of all Iraqis and the joint struggle of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq against the ISIS.

Brett McGurk, a former US government official in the anti-ISIS coalition who has been called the architect of US relations with the Syrian Kurds resigned in protest of the US withdrawal from Kurdish-controlled areas in Syria during the presidency of Donald Trump. The election of the White House coordinator for Middle East and Africa affairs in the cabinet of President Joe Biden shows the president's willingness to support the Kurds. However, Brett McGurk has so far refused to comment on Kurdish issues in his new position.
