Trump administration is responsible for war crimes against Syrian Kurds: former US envoy

<p style="text-align: left;">Former US Envoy to the anti-IS Coalition, Brett McGurk, blamed President Donald Trump&amp;rsquo;s administration for the war crimes committed by Turkish-backed forces against the Syrian Kurds because, according to him, &amp;ldquo;Trump left the Syrian Kurds to Turkey and the rebels.&amp;rdquo;

McGurk has once again blamed Trump of betraying the Syrian Kurds, accusing him of "war crimes against US-led Kurds" during an attack by Turkey and insurgents affiliated with Ankara in 2019.

McGurk tweeted that Trump had said that nothing had happened and that no one had been killed. The sudden withdrawal of US troops from northern Syria paved the way for war crimes against US-allied Kurds, handing over two-thirds of the former IS-controlled areas to Erdogan and Putin.

McGurk called Trump's policy on Syria and the Kurds confusing and questioned Trump's role as the commander-in-chief of US forces, citing repeated harassment of US forces in the northeastern region of Syria.

He accused Trump of paving the way for a Turkish offensive against the Kurds, who had lost 11,000 troops in the fight against the IS, by withdrawing US security forces from the Syrian-Turkish border. Thus, McGurk blamed Trump for the killing of hundreds of Syrian Kurds and the displacement of about 200,000 of them.
