Kurdistan Region president visits Kuwait, meets new Emir

<p style="text-align: left;">The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, made a visit to Kuwait where he met with the Emir of the country and discussed bilateral relations between the two sides.

According to Rudaw, Barzani who traveled to Kuwait on Tuesday, October 13, met with the new Emir of Kuwait, Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, at Al-Bayan Palace.

According to the report, the Kurdish leader talked with Nawaf about the relations between the Kurdistan Region and Kuwait and left Kuwait for Erbil after the meeting.

Barzani also congratulated Nawaf on his election as the new Emir of Kuwait, and expressed his condolences on the death of former Kuwaiti Emir Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

He appreciated Kuwait's assistance to the region, especially in caring for Syrian and Iraqi refugees resettled in the region.

Rudaw reported that Barzani was greeted by Sheikh Ali Jarrah al-Sabah, the Minister of Court Affairs of the Emir of Kuwait, upon his arrival in Kuwait.

The Kuwaiti official told Rudaw that relations between the region and Kuwait are historic.

It should be noted that Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the former Emir of Kuwait, died in the United States on September 29 after a long time of illness, and was succeeded by his step-brother Nawaf.
