Kurdistan Region facing many security challenges: magazine

<p style="text-align: left;">The Geopolitical Monitor magazine writes that the Iraqi Kurdistan region is facing several threats, including an increase in ISIS activities, the launch of rockets at Erbil airport, the explosion of ammunition depots, and some other threats.

In an analysis of the security situation in the Iraqi Kurdistan region, Geopolitical Monitor warned that the region has recently faced many threats that may challenge its stability.

Referring to the recent rocket attacks on Erbil airport, the magazine emphasizes that due to the great controversy over the main cause of these launches and the uncertainty of its causes, this action is a sign of security weakness in the Kurdistan region.

The analysis also points to the increase in the ISIS movements and operations and its infiltration into the Kurdish regions of Iraq, emphasizing that one of the main causes of these insecurities is the lack of cooperation between the Kurdistan Region and the central government in Iraq and the solution is security and military cooperation between Erbil and Baghdad.

Geopolitical Monitor also points to the explosion of Peshmerga ammunition depots in the provinces of Erbil and Sulaimani in the last two years, and warned that the issue is a source of concern for analysts working on the region&rsquo;s politics.

The magazine warns that some ammunition depots in the Kurdistan region are located close to important facilities such as Erbil Airport, and that the explosion of these depots could lead to disasters such as the recent explosion in Beirut, Lebanon, and would cause great damages to civilians.

The Geopolitical Monitor has warned that Peshmerga ammunition depots should not be set up near residential areas.
