New elections must be held in Kurdistan Region: MP

<p dir="LTR" style="text-align: justify;">Shirin Amin, a protesting member of the Movement for Change, says the current Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has failed and that new parliamentary elections must be held in the region.

Protests are continuing in recent days in the Kurdish region where a number of protesters killed and injured. The protesters are mostly protesting against unemployment, non-payment of wages and lack of proper services by the KRG.

Shirin Amin, a member of the Kurdistan Region Parliament whose wife, a journalist, was assassinated a few years ago and who took part in the protests, called for new elections in the Kurdistan Region.

"This government has failed to serve the people, so it must be dissolved and new elections must be held in the Kurdistan region," he told Middle East Eye.

Shirin Amin, a representative of the Movement for Change in the KRG parliament and whose party participates in the current KRG government, told Middle East Eye that the current government is run exclusively by the Iraqi Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and that the party is primarily responsible for its inefficiency.
