According to KurdPress, Kaveh Sheikh Ali, a member of the Kurdistan Regional Parliament from the Islamic Unity faction, announced that based on the new decision of the Iraqi Council of Ministers, state and private refineries that receive crude oil at a subsidized price can no longer set the price of their products without restrictions and relying on government support.According to Kaveh Sheikh Ali, based on this decision, the price of oil products should be adjusted based on the actual cost of refining and a specific and determined profit margin, and receiving crude oil at a subsidized price should not mean that refineries have unlimited pricing power.
This Kurdistan Parliament member had previously expressed concern about the management of oil allocated to refineries and the income from oil products.
He had said in a statement that the income from the 50,000 barrels of oil allocated to refineries daily has not been transparently provided to the Ministry of Finance and public opinion.
Kaveh Sheikh Ali also criticized the government's plan to supply 3.5 million liters of gasoline at a subsidized price, he had emphasized that not only gasoline is produced from the oil allocated to refineries, but also products such as diesel, kerosene, jet fuel, etc. that can generate significant income.
In the same statement, he questioned the claim of the government paying a financial subsidy to supply gasoline and said that the concept of "gasoline subsidy" should not become a cover for the loss of public revenues and the creation of financial obligations for the government.
