Man in Iraqi province kills himself after killing 20 members of his family

Twenty members of a family are dead after a wanted man in Babil province in the south of Iraq killed his family and then himself in an apparent murder-suicide on Thursday, December 30, a security source said.

According to information from Babil Operations, a detachment from security forces arrived at a home in Jableh in the north of Babil province at 3pm to arrest a wanted man when the owner of the home, Rahim Kadhim Ayadah al-Ghariri opened fire.

A reinforcement team surrounded the house, trapping the suspect inside. The confrontation lasted for about four hours, ending at 19:00. Afterwards, the entire family, was found dead in their home.

Security Media Cell issued a statement on Thursday evening noting security forces pursued two suspects wanted for terrorism in Jableh. The statement announced members of security forces were injured after the suspects opened "indiscriminate fire.”

The media cell said an investigation was opened to find out the background of a number of bodies of citizens in the house.
