The issue of forming a new government in Iraq was discussed in a trilateral meeting between the co-chair of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the leaders of the State of Law Coalition and Fatah Coalition in Baghdad.

Bafel Talabani led a high-level delegation from the party in a meeting with Hadi Ameri, leader of the Fatah coalition, and Nouri al-Maliki, the leader of the State of Law coalition, in Baghdad.

The final statement of the meeting stated that the recent political and security developments in Iraq and the region were discussed during the meeting, and the participants expressed their views on the possibilities ahead and the formation of the new government in the country.

In this meeting, Talabani expressed the PUK determination for strengthening and expanding comprehensive ties with all its political partners in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, especially the parties and Iraqi Coordination Framework movements, in order to establish political, security and economic stability as well as unity of the parties in different parts of the country.

He stated that the PUK plan in raising issues such as compromise and agreement in the current situation in Iraq is to maintain the spirit of coexistence and political security in the country, and that the party wants all movements to form a serving government and that's why the party refutes any efforts and plans that is seeking to disrupt social peace in Iraq.

The PUK co-chair called the improvement of the living conditions and welfare of the citizens the main concern of the party and stated that the Iraqi parties should work in this direction and re-establish Iraq and the region in accordance with the common interests and the constitution.

He stressed that there is still room for Iraqi parties to prioritize this national concern over partisan and personal interests.

Nouri al-Maliki also stressed that the Coordinating Framework of the Iraqi Shiite parties insists on reaching an agreement with other national parties in the country to expedite the process of forming a new government within the framework of the constitution.

Hadi Al-Amiri, for his side, said that the door of the Coordination Framework has been open for Iraqi political parties to strengthen the language of dialogue and to reach a solution to the current crisis.
