Spokesperson of the US State Department, Heather Nauert said in a press conference that the United States was looking forward to the final results of the parliamentary election.
“We congratulate the people of Iraq from the Kurdistan region for participating in the election on the 30th of September,” Nauert said on Tuesday, October 2.
“Voting is obviously a critical part of any democratic society. We look forward to the final certification of those – the results of that vote.”
Voters in the Kurdistan Region cast their ballots for the parliamentary election on Sunday. The overall voter turnout was 57 percent.
The Independent High Elections and Referendum Commission in the Kurdistan Region said on Wednesday that as many as 425 complaints had been filed about the election.
