New KGR cabinet could be formed before 2019: KDP official

<p style="text-align: left;">The new cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) will likely be formed before the end of this year, a member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) said on Monday, December 3.

The KDP Politburo member, who spoke under condition of anonymity, told NRT that the party&rsquo;s leadership council met on Monday to discuss the formation of a new cabinet.

After the leadership council settles on its negotiating positions, a party delegation will then hold talks with the other parties, the member said.

&ldquo; The new cabinet must be formed before the end of this year,&rdquo; KDP politburo member added.

The KDP leadership council is expected to make the decisions about the &ldquo;mechanisms and participation&rdquo; of other parties during Monday's meeting, according to the KDP member, meaning that it will choose which ministerial seats to offer to its potential partners.

The KDP has previously said that the formation of the fifth Kurdistan Regional Government cabinet would be based on the results of the parliamentary election held on September 30 and that it will not give an equal share to the second largest party, as has been the case in the past.

According to the results, the KDP secured 45 seats, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) 21, Gorran 12, New Generation 8, Kurdistan Islamic Group (KIG) 7, and Towards Reform, including Kurdistan Islamic Union (KIU) and the Kurdistan Islamic Movement, 5.

The PUK and Gorran are expected to be part of the government, with the KIG also a possibility.
