The KDP has previously said that it will form the new government on the basis of the parties’ strength in parliament, rather than on the “fifty-fifty” arrangement of previous governments.

He made the remark to party-affiliated media following a meeting of the KDP Leadership Council.

Mohammad also said that the Council discussed the relationship between Erbil and Baghdad, relations between Kurdish parties, and the formation of the new Kurdistan Regional Government cabinet, NRT reported.

“The Kurdistan Democratic Party will meet with the parties and we will all try to resolve the Kurdistan Region’s problems,” he added.

“The Kurdistan Democratic Party is waiting for the Patriotic Union Kurdistan in order to settle the nominees for the parliament’s speaker. We have not talked about the distribution of positions.”

He also said that the topic of the Kirkuk governorship had been discussed by KDP President Masoud Barzani and PUK First Deputy Secretary General Kosrat Rasul.

The KDP and the PUK signed an agreement March 4 that was appeared to pave the way for the new government to be finalized.
