Demirtas issue is a legal case: Davutoglu

Turkey former Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu told Financial Times in remarks about pro-Kurdish former Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) co-Leader Selahattin Demirtas that his issue is a legal case and nothing can be done about it.

Blaming the policies of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) policies, Davutoglu stated the party once cared about freedom, justice and freedom of expression but the basics of the party have been violated in the past three years.

He stated that Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s power has hurt the basic structures of the country and has weakened its political organizations, adding that he is still a member of the AKP and will try to make internal reforms but stressed he is not very hopeful in this regard.

He added that “Demirtas was arrested 6 months after I resigned as Turkey PM and was sent to prison. His imprisonment has not been done and it is legal process and nothing can be done about it.”
