PUK, Gorran aided PKK to settle in Sulaimani: Cavusoglu

The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) is based in Sulaimani as a result of support it has received from Change Movement (Gorran) and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Tuesday, June 4.

There is a small group among the PUK officials who support the PKK, Cavusoglu said citing a Kurdish minister from the PUK with whom he claims to have met.

“PKK received support from a number of groups from Talabani’s party and Gorran. Due to their support, the PKK managed to settle in the city [Sulaimani],” the Turkish state-run Anadolu Agency quoted Cavusoglu as saying.

The PUK leadership has received threats from the PKK, citing the Kurdish minister without mentioning his name. “That is what the consequence would be, if you assist a terrorist organization.”

“PKK is against Erbil [Kurdistan Regional Government] as well,” he added.

The United States and Turkey endorsed a roadmap for Manbij following a meeting between Cavusoglu and US State Secretary Mike Pompeo in Washington on Monday.

Cavusoglu further said his country has come to an agreement with Washington, Baghdad and Erbil on a roadmap regarding withdrawal of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) in Manbij.
