Iran extends travel restrictions at border crossing with Kurdistan Region

Head of the relations office at Bashmakh international border crossing Esmail Ali said on Monday, April 5, that Iranian officials have decided to extend the closure of the border for tourists until April 20 in an effort to prevent the spread of new COVID-19 variants.

Ali told NRT that Iraqi citizens are not allowed to visit Iran and Iranians are not allowed to visit the Kurdistan Region.

Trade activities are unaffected.

On February 20, Iran closed border crossings with the Kurdistan Region and Iraq to tourists for two weeks and later extended it.

Iran recorded 13,890 new cases on Sunday, which is the highest number of daily infections since December 4.
