Jamal Hawiz, the head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) fraction in the Kurdistan Parliament, said at a press conference that the fraction and the fractions that boycotted the May 7th session of the parliament, decided not to attend any sessions until the Parliament's board of leaders calls all the fractions for a summit, Zamen Press reported.
He added that the problem of these fractions is not with the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) fraction in parliament, and they have problems with the Parliament's Board of Leaders, and this is the second time that the Board of Leaders breaches the Internal Parliamentary Statute and agreements between the PUK and the KDP since the agreements stipulate that the Kurdistan Parliament's Speaker and Vice President should act in cooperation with each other.
He also said that Hemin Hawrami, the vice-president and Mona Qahwechi, the secretary of the Kurdistan Parliament called for the cancellation of the immunity of MPs, without considering the request of the parliamentary fraction that were against the decision, and held the session. That is why the PUK fraction does not participate in any session until the mechanisms of the board of leaders change and reviews its performance.
Jamal Hawiz noted that Hemin Hawrami, a representative of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), as the deputy speaker of the Kurdistan Parliament, has verbally attacked the PUK, angering the PUK’s parliamentary fraction.
It is worth mentioning that in Thursday May 7 the Kurdistan Democratic Party (Party) fraction and the representatives of minority blocs in the Parliament held a meeting which was not attended by Speaker Riwaz Fayeq, a PUK member. In the meeting the parliamentary immunity of Islamic Community MP Suran Omar was cancelled despite opposition from the PUK, the Change Movement, Islamic Unity, Jemaah Community, the New Generation, Freedom and Communist, which have boycotted the summit. The move prompted oppositions from the fractions and then the parliamentary sessions were suspended.
