Last week, Russian and American forces clashed during their regular patrols in the Kurdish-controlled region of Syria which led to the injury of four American soldiers.
Russian and US officials have accused each other of violating protocols signed between the two countries in Syria.
Joshua Landis, a Middle East and Syria researcher, warned that such clashes would increase in the future.
He told VOA that more such clashes would take place between the United States and Russia in the future.
Dr. Landis added: "Tensions are expected to increase in the region in the future as there are several forces with conflicting interests in the region."
