Iraqi PM and president meet Sulaimani, discuss parliamentary elections

<p style="text-align:left">Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Kadhimi met with President Barham Salih in Sulaimani, Kurdistan Region, on Friday to discuss important issues in Iraq and preparations for early parliamentary elections in the country.

Leading a high-profile delegation the Iraqi premier arrived in Kurdistan Region on Thursdayto meet the region&rsquo;s leaders and top officials.

According to Al-Sumaria News, the media office of the Iraqi prime minister issued a statement and stated that al-Kadhimi said in the meeting, attended by a number of Kurdish political figures, that "Today is a historic opportunity for Iraq to make all the mistakes of the past and establish its economy and administrative system in a better and more appropriate way in the interests of all Iraqis.

The Iraqi Prime Minister stressed: "The current stage requires construction and solidarity and learning from the mistakes on the path to build a new Iraq after the fall of the dictatorship (toppled Baath regime)."

During the meeting, Iraqi President Barham Salih praised the efforts of Kadhimi and his cabinet to implement reforms, saying "government policy reflects a serious effort to protect the interests of citizens throughout Iraq and to strengthen the rule of law, government and law enforcement for all."
