Turkey expresses support to Baghdad-Erbil agreement on Shingal

<p style="text-align: left;">Turkish Defense Ministry's public relations adviser said in a statement that the Turkish Ministry of Defense supported the October 9th Baghdad-Erbil agreement on Shingal.

"In addition to the presence of PKK / YPG forces in Armenia, there is a general from the Republic of Southern Cyprus in the region," Shabnam Aktop, Public Relations Adviser at the Turkish Ministry of Defense, said in a press conference, claiming that "there is information about training Armenian militias and PKK forces in different countries as mercenaries."

"The October 9 agreement between the Iraqi central government and the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government is important and we support it," Aktop was quoted as saying by the Aydinlik newspaper, referring to the Baghdad-Erbil agreement on Shingal.

Regarding military operations against the PKK inside and outside Turkey, she said: "During the last month, 5 large operations have been carried out inside Turkey and 2 large operations outside Turkey, in which 46 members of the PKK members inside the country and 61 others abroad have been killed."

On the evening of Friday, October 28, 2016, Ahmad Mullah Talal, spokesman for Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Kazemi, announced an agreement between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Iraqi federal government to normalize the situation in Shingal, a city in northern Iraq.

According to the Bass News website, Ahmad Mullah Talal wrote on his Twitter account that a historic agreement had been reached between the KRG and the Iraqi federal government.

Mullah Talal added that the agreement would put an end to the dominance of illegal groups in the region and pave the way for the renovation of Shingal and the return of displaced people of the city to their homes.

It is noteworthy that the KRG Minister of Interior, Riber Ahmed, announced after a Friday meeting with Iraqi sides that the Kurdistan Regional and the Iraqi federal government have reached a good agreement to normalize the military and administrative situation in Shingal.

The agreement was made at the presence of UN representatives, BasNews reported.

The Minister of Interior of the Kurdistan Region emphasized that the aim of the two sides in this agreement is to normalize the situation in Shingal and return the displaced people of this city to their homes.
