Iraqi government must pay compensation for crimes

Iraq and Kurdistan Region service – On the anniversary of the genocide of the Kurdish Fili, the head of the Kurdistan Region announced that the federal government must fulfill its duty and pay material and moral compensation to the victims and injured parties based on the ruling of the Iraqi Supreme Court, which recognized this crime as genocide.

According to Kurdpress, Nachirvan Barzani said in a statement today (Saturday): "Today, we commemorate the 46th anniversary of the painful crimes of genocide and the disappearance of our Kurdish brothers and sisters, those oppressed people who, in the brutal whirlwind of the former Iraqi regime, faced execution, murder, arrest, exile, revocation of citizenship, and confiscation of their property and assets, simply because they were Kurds and defended their identity and legitimate rights."

He pointed out that the deportation of hundreds of thousands of Kurdish refugees and the disappearance of tens of thousands of others was a racist genocide by the Baath Party, which left Iraq with a dark history and a bitter past full of mistakes.

Nachirvan Barzani emphasized: "In this ceremony, we emphasize once again that the Iraqi federal government must fulfill its duty and, based on the verdict of the Iraqi Supreme Criminal Court, which recognized this crime as genocide, pay material and moral compensation to the victims and injured parties and restore their citizenship, property, and assets."
