Ambassador Tueller delivered a letter from US President Joe Biden to Nechirvan Barzani, reaffirming US support to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
Barzani and the Ambassador discussed a wide range of topics including the latest developments in Iraq, the political process in the country and the sessions of the Iraqi parliament in Baghdad.
The situation in the Kurdistan Region and the upcoming elections, Erbil-Baghdad relations and the prospects of the political process of the country were also highlighted.
Both sides agreed on the necessity of a fair governance in Iraq based on mutual trust and genuine partnership, and committed to the constitution and its principles as the only path towards ensuring peace and stability. They reiterated the importance of building trust and mutual understanding among all Iraqi sides to overcome the challenges and finding solutions, Shafaq News reported.
Also discussed were the ongoing talks among parties on the election laws in the Kurdistan Region, the significance of unity among Kurdistani factions in Baghdad and their partnership with Iraqi parties. The importance of the continued Erbil-Baghdad talks to resolve the pending issues, Iraq and the Kurdistan Region’s relations with the regional countries, the war in Ukraine and its implications, and the Vienna nuclear talks were highlighted at the meeting which was also attended by the US Consul General.
