A villager told NRT that IS militants attacked Dara village in the Ghari Sar area of Daquq district on Wednesday.

The militants abducted an ethnic Kurd during the attack, the source added.

“IS militants came from the agricultural fields of the area. There are no security forces in those fields,” the source said, noting the villagers protect the area voluntarily.

Baghdad declared military victory over IS in December, after having expelled the militants from all urban centers they had held in northern and western Iraq.

But IS has not completely disappeared and sleeper cells have been fighting a guerrilla war against the government forces.
