The two sides stressed that they wanted a “healthy political process,” which would be responsive to the demands and hopes of all segments of Iraqi society, the prime minister's office said in a statement.
Amiri said that it was important that there be effective participation by the Kurdistan Region in the political process in Iraq and that issues between Erbil and Baghdad should be solved according to the Iraqi constitution.
He also considered the participation of the Kurdistan Region in the political process in Iraq to be in the interest of all Iraq.
Barzani and Amiri also discussed the formation of a new Iraqi cabinet during the meeting.
They both confirmed their support the Prime Minister-designate Adel Abdul Mahdi, who was tasked by newly-elected President Barham Salih with the formation of the new government of Iraq.
Salih of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) was elected as the new President of Iraq on Tuesday. He won 219 votes.
A total of 272 MPs voted in the second round, a steep drop-off from the 303 who participated in the first round.
KRG Premier said earlier on Thursday that the PUK had ruined the Kurdish unity in Baghdad.
