Gorran said in a statement on Sunday (October 21) that the party would take every necessary measure regarding alleged irregularities.
“After waiting for three weeks, the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan announced the results last night of the parliamentary election [held] on September 30,” the statement read.
“Delaying the announcement of the results for the long period was only to change the election results,” Gorran said.
According to NRT Gorran added in the statement that the KDP and the PUK had also carried out electoral fraud during the election by creating “hundreds of thousands of Iraqi certificate cards with the direct help of the directorate for nationality certificate in the Kurdistan Region.”
“We totally reject the results and we will take necessary measures regarding the issue.”
The New Generation and the Kurdistan Islamic Union (KIU) have also rejected the results of the parliamentary election.
The Kurdistan Region’s election and referendum commission announced the final results of the parliamentary election with the two ruling parties taking first and second places.
The KDP and PUK members of the commission voted to release the results at a late night session, while the other members, who represent Gorran, KIU, and the Kurdistan Islamic Group, voted against doing so.
According to the results, KDP secured 45 seats, PUK 21, Gorran 12, New Generation 8, Kurdistan Islamic Group 7, and Towards Reform, including KIU and the Kurdistan Islamic Movement, 5 seats.
