Hawrami said the political factions in the Kurdistan Region have disagreements regarding elections laws, and the electoral commission.
According to NRT Hawrami said parliament has made many attempts to improve the political situation, such as holding meetings with the leaders of the different factions, with the presidency of the Region, and with the representative of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq, in order to reach an agreement on the political and legal sides of the election.
The deputy speaker said the meetings have not resulted in a political rapprochement that would lead to holding elections and stated it would be better to delay elections for a few months in order to keep the Kurdistan Region united and for all the political parties to participate in the election.
He revealed all political parties have agreed on holding a transparent election using a record that most political participants trust, the biometric record of voters used in the Iraqi parliamentary elections in November 2021.
He added, he did not believe the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) would be able to technically conduct the elections on time.
