PUK president meets SDF Commander-in-Chief

The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President, Bafel Talabani, on Tuesday, met with the Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Syria’s Rojava, said Talabani’s office in a statement.

Talabani who visited the western part of Kurdistan, also known as Rojava, met with the SDF Commander-in-Chief Mazloum Abdi in the city of Kobani.

In a meeting, attended by the General Director of the Counter-Terrorism Forces (CTG), Wahab Halabjai, Talabani and Abdi discussed the political situation of Rojava and the Kurdistan Region, the office in the statement said.

According to Esta Media Network the pair also discussed the latest political developments regarding the Kurdish issue, reiterating the peaceful resolution of the issues, according to the statement.

Moreover, Abdi expressed his happiness over Talabani’s visit to Rojava and said “Rojava will not forget PUK’s continued supports which has been an honest and loyal supporter of us.”

Abdi also highlighted the role of the CTG in the fight against the Islamic State (ISIS) in Rojava along with the SDF forces.

“The CTG played a major and effective role in succeeding the security as well as military processes of Rojava against ISIS,” and “We are proud of them,” the commander added.

Speaking about the efforts to address the problems before the Kurdish issue Abdi added that “Our all efforts are for the sake of the liberty of Kurds and protecting our rights,” the office in the statement added.

Moreover, in return, Talabani reiterated PUK’s eagerness for the peaceful resolution of the issues, adding that “We will make every effort to make dialogue to the foundation of resolving the issues, overcoming this situation.”

Talabani has also said that they will “absolutely” develop their relations with Rojava. “PUK deems itself as the servant of the Kurdish people,” while “Being Kurdish is our pride,” and “our survival depends on our unity,” said Talabani.

In the meantime, Talabani has also explained one of the Rojava’s “vital” duties, seeing itself as protecting the rights, culture, and language of the Kurdish people in the region.

“We proudly support it,” Talabani told Abdi. “PUK’s national initiative was for being united and our united discourse in front of the fateful issues and protecting our rights.”

Elaborating on the PUK’s relations with neighboring countries Talabani stated that “we seek healthily friendly relations, making peace and harmony the bases of our relations.”

“This is the legacy of the Late leader, Mam Jalal Talabani, and we will be the continuer of it,” Talabani continued.
