Rizgar Ali told Turkish state-run Anadolu news agency Thursday, January 3, that the situation is complicated and that no formal agreements have been reached between the political parties.
“It is impossible that the PUK will again let [the Kurdistan Democratic Party] unilaterally run all sensitive institutions in the Kurdistan Region,” he said.
According to NRT he also said that the party had formed a joint committee with the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) to resolve their dispute over electing a new Kurdish governor for Kirkuk province.
The committee has met once, he said, but made little progress.
“The return of the former Kirkuk governor is an illegal act and a fantasy. It goes against a decree previously issued by the Iraqi courts,” Ali asserted.
Regarding the next round of negotiations between the PUK and the KDP, Ali said that both sides should speak frankly with each other about how to resolve their problems.
