KDP not ready to fulfill PUK demands: spokesman

<p style="text-align: left;">The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) is not ready to meet the demands of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), PUK spokesman said Monday, April 1.

The party had received an official response from the KDP negotiating team to proposals it had made last week regarding ministerial positions, Latif Sheikh Omer told NRT, revealing that &ldquo;KDP is not ready to fulfill our demands.&rdquo;

He went on to add that the KDP&rsquo;s response to their proposals would not allow the PUK to participate in government decision-making in a meaningful way.

Following a meeting Monday afternoon with representatives of the Kurdistan Islamic Group (KIG), Sheikh Omar said that his party will not accept marginalization and subordination to the KDP.

&ldquo;The PUK hopes to have a honorable agreement with the KDP,&rdquo; he stressed.

The parties met in Sulaimani for talks last Wednesday, but failed to reach an agreement on the formation of the new cabinet and canceled expected talks on Saturday.

Secretary of the KDP Politburo Fazil Mirani said in an interview published on Monday that it would not be ideal if the government was formed without the PUK, but added that it could still be done.
