“I am happy to announce that the PUK will come into government and the parliament is doing its job right now,” Barzani said during a meeting with KDP party officials.

“The government will start to be formed because we decided to not wait any longer,” he added.

PUK Spokesperson Latif Sheikh Omer said earlier on Wednesday that the party had reached a joint understating with the KDP about its share of positions in the new cabinet.

The breakthrough came following a phone call between KDP leader Masoud Barzani and PUK First Deputy Secretary General Kosrat Rasul, according to Sheikh Omer.
