Kamal told NRT that they had been in close communication with the Coalition about the resumption of the trainings.
“We were warned last Sunday that the trainings would stop temporarily, but were told on Thursday that the trainings would restart on May 19,” Kamal said.
“We have plans with the Coalition for 2019 and our work will continue,” he added.
The US-led Coalition has been training the Peshmerga as part of its efforts to combat Islamic State. The Coalition also trains a variety of federal military and police units.
The US, the Netherlands, and Germany all announced on Wednesday that they had suspended their training programs due to heightened tensions between the US and Iran.
