Putin’s remarks came after tensions between Iran and US escalated in a series of incidents, the last of which was the downing of a US drone by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) earlier the day near the Persian Gulf.
He called the US sanctions against Iran “groundless”, and said Tehran was in full compliance with its commitment to the 2015’s Nuclear Deal.
