Iraqi Kurdish finance minister to be called to parliament

<p style="text-align: left;">Two members of the Council of Representatives field a lawsuit against federal Finance Minister Fuad Hussein on Monday, July 22.

According to NRT the lawsuit argues that Hussein has failed to secure the Kurdistan Regional Government&rsquo;s (KRG) adherence to the 2019 Federal Budget Law, specifically citing the latter&rsquo;s responsibility to transfer 250,000 barrels per day of crude oil to the federal State Organization for Marketing of Oil (SOMO).

The lawsuit was filed by Jawda Mousawi and Anam Khuzaii, who belong to the Sadrist Sairoon List.

Earlier on Monday, it was announced that a joint committee had been formed consisting of officials from both the KRG and the federal government to resolve the issue.

Baghdad has held up its side of the budget deal by transferring funds for Erbil to pay public sector and Peshmerga salaries, while the KRG has sent no oil so far. This has caused frustration among many lawmakers who accuse the KRG of not adhering to the law.
