Nechirvan Barzani, US envoy to Iraq discuss Iraq election, developments

<p style="text-align: left;">The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani discussed with US Ambassador to Iraq Douglas Silliman the May 12 parliament election in Iraq and the latest developments in the country at a meeting on Saturday, June 9, in Erbil.

Silliman was accompanied by a delegation including US Consul General in Erbil Ken Gross, said official website of the KRG.

&ldquo;They emphasized on the need for unity among the parties to bring the political process to success in Iraq and wished for the current issues to not hinder efforts to form a new Iraqi government,&rdquo; KRG website reported.

According to NRT Barzani reiterated his ambition for the unity of the Kurds to have a &ldquo;serious&rdquo; role in the new Iraqi government that would guarantee political and economic stability.

Parliament passed a law on June 6 ordering a nationwide manual recount of votes in the election, after Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi Abadi cited serious violations.
