<p style="text-align: left;">Counting of votes continues to elect members of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) General Leadership Council, PUK media reported on Wednesday, December 25.

PUK media reported that vote counting in the circles of Khanaqin, Garmian, Chamchamal, Koya, Qarachogh, Hamrin, Sinjar, Nineveh, and Baghdad had been completed.
Nearly 70 percent of the votes in Sulaimani circle, 90 percent in Erbil circle, and 65 percent in Kirkuk circle have also been counted, PUK media said.
The PUK media has yet to announce any successful candidate for the party&rsquo;s General Leadership Council.
NRT channel has obtained information inside the congress indicating that Lahur Sheikh Jangi, head of Protection and Intelligence Agency/ Intelligence, has secured most of the votes in the congress.
The members of the PUK congress spent Monday voting on the membership of the General Leadership Council, a 121-member body that will be instrumental in selecting the party&rsquo;s next Secretary General and making internal party policy over the next several years.
The election was due to take place on Sunday, but was postponed by a day because of disagreements within the congress. Around 400 people had nominated themselves for a seat on the Council, including more than half of the former politburo.
The PUK congress is the first in nearly a decade and has been billed by party leaders as an opportunity to renew the party.
