KDP is against extending Iraq parliamentary session

<p style="text-align: left;">The head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party in Iraq parliament Arafat Karam said that extending parliament's session would be 'unconstitutional."

In a televised statement on Sunday, June 24, he said that "his bloc will not participate in the extension of the work of the Council of Representatives.&rdquo;

Karam added: " We will boycott any session on the extension of the Council of Representatives, so we will boycott the session Sunday," explaining that the extension is a "violation of articles 66 and 67 of the Iraqi Constitution, where the Constitution stated that the duration of the parliamentary session is four years.&rdquo;

According to NRT he also said that "the main motive for parties seeking to extend the parliamentary session is the desire of those parties to sabotage the political process and the passage of laws to serve the interests of the parties that did not win the elections."

According to Karam the KDP will not boycott the Iraqi Council of Representatives, but will do so for the meetings required implement the extension.

The current parliamentary session is due to expire on June 30, but there has been a push to gather parliamentary signature to extend the session until a new government is formed.
