No big change to Kirkuk votes after manual recount: Malla Bakhtiyar

<p style="text-align: left;">Politburo head of Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), Mala Bakhtiyar said on Saturday, July 7, that results for manual vote recount of Iraq&amp;rsquo;s disputed election for Kirkuk province show that more than 90 percent of ballots matched the previous electronic results.

The PUK official said during a press conference in Sulaimani that no change happened to 93 percent of the votes after the manual recount of suspect ballots from last month's election, NRT reported.

According to the preliminary results announced by Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) in May, Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) was leading in the election in Kirkuk by winning six seats out of 12.

Several Kurdish parties, Turkmen and Arab lists rejected the preliminary results of the parliamentary election over allegations of electoral fraud, calling for a manual recount.

On May 21, the IHEC cancelled votes from 103 polling stations in five provinces across the country over complaints and appeals.

After Kirkuk, ballot boxes in Basra, Mithan, Dhi Qar, Musana, Qadisia and Wasit are set to be opened for manual recount on Monday, July 9.

The United Nations, consulates, and party representatives, as well as international observers are monitoring the process.
