The Turkish government, led by the Justice and Development Party (AKP), has put increasing pressure on Kurds and the HDP in recent months, and the number of arrests have been increased.

Foreign Policy magazine has cited the problems of the current government and the ruling party led by Recep Tayyip Erdogan as the reason for the increasing pressure on the Kurdish HDP.

According to Foreign Policy, Erdogan's crackdown on the HDP shows the extent to which his government has faced economic crisis, declining party votes, declining supporters, escalating tensions with the United States and confrontation with some countries in the Mediterranean.

Eskan Ardimir, director of the Turkish program at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, also believes that the escalation of racial acts against the Kurds and their elected representatives seems to be the last resort to save the ruling coalition.

Sabanci University professor, Burak Asen says the double pressure on the HDP is due to the ruling coalition's desperation and an attempt to win more nationalist votes by linking the Kurdish party to the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

He claimed the Erdogan-led government is falling apart.
