According to Mawazin News, a local source said: "The protests started after an agreement was reached between the central government and the Kurdistan Regional Government to evacuate the buildings and hand it over to the KDP."
It is to be noted that following the events after the referendum on the independence of Kurdistan in September 2017 and the deployment of central government forces in Kirkuk and the disputed areas between Erbil and Baghdad, the KDP evacuated its headquarters in these areas.
