Sabri told her party’s official media outlet that the budget is for 2021 which means that Baghdad should also send the Region’s share of the first three months as well.
“It has been decided to transfer what it has not transferred yet,” she said.
She did not address when the Kurdistan Region might begin sending oil to the federal government.
Expectations were high for improved relations after the 2019 budget law passed in January of that year, with many of the same provisions of the 2021 law, but it ultimately collapsed because of Erbil's refusal to send the oil it was required to under the law.
On Wednesday night, the parliament passed the budget law, including Article 11, which outlines the Kurdistan Region's share.
The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) will receive 9.5 trillion Iraqi dinars ($6.5 billion), which will be disbursed in monthly increments, in return for submitting 250,000 barrels of crude oil per day to Iraq's oil marketer SOMO for export. The federal government will be able to cut off funds in the event of non-compliance.
