Barzani calls for end to media attacks between KDP and PUK

<p style="text-align: left;">Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani called, in a message, for an end to media attacks by the security institutions of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) against each other.

Over the past few days, Erbil's security forces known as Asayish, and the security forces of the PUK (one-party), known as Zanyari, carried out intense media attacks against each other, accusing each side of spying, murder, smuggling and bribery.

The Zanyari Press Agency claimed that one of the sons of Barzani's family, the Prime Minister of the Kurdish Region and a prominent member of the Democratic Party, has received $250 million in bribes in an oil contract of a Russian oil company with the autonomous region.

Responding to these tensions, Masrour Barzani called on all parties and sides in the region&rsquo;s media to calm the situation and not to exacerbate the political conflict.

"In his statement, Zanyari referred to the receipt of $250 million bribes from an oil company, while the region's government has taken strict measures to counter the phenomenon of bribery, which is why it is requested by the public prosecutor of the region to follow up the case as soon as possible. If the person who has made the claim provides evidence in this regard, he shall present his evidence to the Public Prosecutor, otherwise he shall be held responsible for any of the charges against him.

"Here, as prime minister of the Kurdish region, I will ask all parties to calm the situation and not to intensify the political conflicts and tensions, and we must use all our strength to move beyond the current difficult phase."
