New round of Syria talks kick off in Kazakhstan

The 16th round of international talks on Syria within the framework of Astana Format began on Wednesday in Kazakhstan's capital city of Nur-Sultan and it was attended by delegations from Iran, Russia, Turkey and Syrian government and opposition.

Senior Assistant to Foreign Minister in Special Political Affairs Ali Asghar Khaji who heads Iranian delegation to the meeting arrived at Nur-Sultan today, IRNA reported.

Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry spokesman said that Russian and Syrian delegation had already arrived in the capital city.

The last round of talks, the 15th round, was held late last year in Sochi, Russia.

The situation in Syria, the Committee of the Syrian Constitution in Geneva, international aid and some relieving measures like prisoner swap and releasing hostages are at the center of discussion in this round.
