The independent Syrian Kurdish politician told KurdPress that "In the previous periods, they conducted negotiations in two times and under the supervision of Massoud Barzani (the Kurdistan Democratic Party), but the talks did not yield any results."

Regarding the role of the United States and Russia in involving the Kurds in the Syrian political process, Alaa Barakat said: "I think neither the United States nor Russia seeks the rights of the Kurds and their benefits, because the Kurdish political movements themselves are divided into several groups and pursue several different interests."
He added: "Each of these movements is connected to a place and this multiplicity hinders a single attempt to reach a comprehensive agreement."
The independent Syrian Kurdish politician further stressed: "differences and the existence of numerous political parties and movements have blocked the way of making right and decisive decisions."
