Both presidential candidates have said they want to reduce the number of American troops in the Middle East, but apparently Joe Biden wants more troops to leave because he says 1,500 to 2,000 troops in the Middle East will be enough.
In an interview with the Stars and Stripes, Joe Biden said he supports the withdrawal of US troops from the Middle East and bringing an end to endless wars.
He stressed that the presence of a small number of US troops in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan is enough to fight terrorist groups and support US allies, stressing that because of the complexity of the situation in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan, he can not pullout all troops if he is elected president.
Incumbent President Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, last week called for a reduction in US troops in Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria. He said there are currently few US troops in Syria to protect oil wells controlled by the Kurds, and that he was trying to use Syrian oil to improve the lives of the Kurds in the country.
In October 2019, the United States withdrew about 1,500 of its 2,000 troops stationed in Syria, following a Turkish attack on Syrian Kurdish forces.
Trump has said he may withdraw a number of US troops from Syria again.
