Iranian FM voices support for parliamentary Iraq elections

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian expressed Iran's support for snap elections in Iraq.

Amir-Abdollahian made the remarks during his meeting with Iraq's Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi.

At the meeting which was held in the Iraqi capital, Amir-Abdollahian referred to the upcoming parliamentary elections in Iraq and said that Islamic Republic stresses that early elections would be an arena for manifestation of Iraqi people's will.

Amir- Abdollahian left for Baghdad on Saturday to take part in summit of regional support for Iraq. On the sidelines of the summit, Iranian foreign minister held talks with several Iraqi officials.

Congratulating Iraq on holding the summit successfully, Amir- Abdollahian underlined the importance of parliamentary relations between Iran and Iraq.

For his part, the Iraqi parliament speaker expressed readiness for following up bilateral ties with Iran.

In a related development, Iraq has announced that aim behind holding Baghdad summit is to decrease tension in the region, develop economic relations, and solve dispute among Iraq's neighboring states.

After his visit to Iraq the Iranian FM traveled to Damascus where he met his Syrian counterpart, Faisal Meqdad and discussed the latest regional developments with the Syrian official.
