Iraqi FM says Iran-Saudi meetings going on with Iraq's mediation

Iraq's Foreign Minister Fuad Mohammed Hussein said Iran and Saudi Arabia have been meeting with his country mediation on the sidelines of the 'Summit on Regional Support for Iraq' which is held in Baghdad.

Hussein made the remark during a press conference at the conclusion of the summit on Saturday in answering a question about any marginal meetings between different countries, including the Islamic Republic of Iran and Saudi Arabia, as well as Qatar and Egypt.

The Foreign Minister stressed that he could not say anything about the content of such meetings as they are organized and held by countries themselves but could confirm that it took place, IRNA reported.

He pointed out that Baghdad had previously hosted bilateral meetings between Iran and Saudi Arabia before the regional summit.

Hussein said Tehran and Riyadh are serious about pushing their bilateral meetings towards positive results.

The day-long summit was held today in Baghdad with the participation of leaders of Iraq's neighbors, minus Syria, a number of foreign countries as well as the chiefs of the Arab League and the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council.
