According to Shafaq News, Barzani, who is also the first deputy leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), said in response to a question about the reopening of parties' offices in Kirkuk province, that: "The issue of Kirkuk is not limited to the reopening of parties' offices. Rather, it is a deep and serious issue that needs to be resolved.
Barzani added: "A solution must be found for Kirkuk within the framework of Iraq, including Article 140 of the country's constitution. For this reason, it is necessary to reach an agreement with the Iraqi government in order to guarantee the rights of the Kurds in Kirkuk."
Regarding the ties between Erbil and Baghdad, Barzani said: "Relations with Baghdad are in good and some of the remaining issues need to be discussed and solved. We hope that solutions will be found for these issues after the elections."
Iraqis will vote in a parliamentary election on October 10 this year.
