According to Kurdpress, the head of the Kurdistan Social Democratic Party, referring to the news that is published about the disputed areas of Erbil and Baghdad, said that these actions are part of a pre-designed plan by the current government of Iraq and the Arab currents against the Kurds. A policy which, according to him, follows the same approach of the Baath Party to change the demographic structure and reduce the Kurdish population in these areas.
Mohammad Haji Mahmoud explained that in the framework of these policies, areas and cities such as Qadir Karam and Infernovarmatu were joined to Tikrit and named Salahuddin Province, Qara Tepe was upgraded to the level of a city and separated from Jabara and added to Diyala, Maidan and Banari Bemo were joined to Khanqin and Khanqin itself to Diyala. Also, Kut, Mandli, Kazaniye and Belarus were added to Diyala, and in continuation of this process, Jalola also became a city.
He emphasized that these actions are taking place while neither Article 58 of the Provisional Constitution nor Article 140 of the Iraqi Constitution have been implemented, and accordingly, the Iraqi government has no right to make any administrative changes in the disputed areas (included in Article 140).
The head of the Kurdistan Social Democratic Party asked the relevant parties not to allow Baghdad to continue such interventions and added: "The Kurds living in these areas bear a heavy responsibility against these hostile plans; Because the main question is that despite the presence of nearly half a million Kurdish citizens in Diyala, why in several election periods, not even one parliamentary seat for the Kurds in this province has been guaranteed."
