Lavrov urged Cavusoglu to take seriously Moscow’s concerns about military and technical cooperation between Turkey and Ukraine seriously in a phone call between the pair, according to DW.
"A number of regional issues were discussed, focusing on the situation in Ukraine," it cited the Russian Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement issued following the telephone conversation between the officials.
The phone call arrives a day after Ukraine approved a military framework agreement with Turkey as the two countries increase military cooperation.
Ukraine became one of the first countries to purchase Turkish Bayraktar TB2 armed drones in 2019. It used the technology for the first time to strike a position controlled by pro-Russian separatists in the Donbas region in October, destroying an artillery unit, Reuters reported.
Moscow has strongly opposed Turkey’s arm sales to Ukraine, claiming they are further destabilising the region, a charge Ankara has denied.
Lavrov in May warned Turkey against what he said were attempts to fuel “militaristic sentiment” in Ukraine after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan pledged support to Kyiv amid a buildup of Russian forces along its border.
